Annotations for Party at the End of the World Live Demo

Lyric: I’m not afraid of your condition
Annotation:
The “condition” is his drug addiction. While the narrator (most likely Gerard Way himself) has acknowledged that he has a problem and needs to get better, his peers think there’s nothing wrong with them and they can just stay stuck with drugs. They aren’t scared of the risks of their destructive behaviour, they’re too focused on getting their next fix.

Lyric: And I’m not backing your decision
 To get clean
Annotation:
He’s decided to become sober, stopping using drugs and alcohol and distancing himself from the self destructive patterns of his peers. His “friends” aren’t supportive of him and want him to stay with them doing drugs and essentially self destructing.

Lyric: Let me kill
Annotation:
Many recreational drugs can cause erratic behaviour, violent tendencies and loss of control.

Lyric: We all can’t stop dancing now
Annotation:
“Dancing” is likely referring to heavy drug use and partying. When the fun has stopped, they can’t stop using drugs and are addicted, using them in their spare time just to feel something even when they’re alone.

Lyric: All my friends can go to sleep again
Annotation:
Several of the narrators friends have passed away due to their addictions. He has new friends who are also using drugs, and he can’t stop them. He’s worried that they may meet the same fate.

Lyric: Come on, come on
We said we’d never stop, no
Annotation:
He was friends with this person while they were both addicted to drugs, saying they would do them together and not stop. Now that he’s sober, his friend’s reminding him that they said they wouldn’t stop doing drugs and that they would continue having fun together.

Lyric: I think I like my occupation fine
Annotation:
This could be interpreted in one of two ways: 1.) The narrator has tried to warn their friend about the dangers of addiction and how it’s ruining their life. The friend responds with this line, convinced there’s nothing wrong with them and that they’re completely fine and happy with their drug problem. 2.) Gerard is sober from drugs and his friend is trying to get him to take some, telling him he’s being boring by not taking drugs. He responds by telling them he’s completely fine and happy being sober and doesn’t need to wreck his life anymore.

Lyric: Come on, come on
 A new toy to self-destruct
Annotation:
Many people begin using drugs to have fun and party. A lot of the time, it ends in addiction and their life falling apart. The narrator is speaking to someone, possibly a friend, who has began using drugs and is warning them that it will ruin their life.
